Nutrition 101

Choose Life

Taught by:  Joanna Stewart

Meet the Teacher Video

Wednesday

12:30 – 1:30

COST: Class duration 2 Semesters ~ $150 per semester

We study the function of each system and how our food choices influence wellness. This is a 2 semester course that covers all aspects of health including anatomy, biology, nutrition and chemistry. Each week there’s opportunity to sample food as a tangible way to experience nutrients. We learn the why’s of what to eat, not just the “because I said so”.  My goal is to equip students to make the best choices for improved health and abundant living. This class satisfies the Ca state requirements for health.

Both male and female students 13 and older are encouraged to enroll.

TEXT:  Nutrition 101: Choose Life! by Growing Healthy Homes.  I have a limited number of books for $79 plus tax. This text is a
book that your family can use as a constant resource for improved health. It’s much more than a textbook.

The Barnabas Tinker Series takes young inventors on a series of 60-minute robotics adventures over the course of 8 weeks.  In each session, students will learn key engineering principles as they build little robots of their own.

Sample projects include:  Critter-Bot, FAN-tastic Robot, Scribble-Bot, Arcade-Bot, S.S. Tugboat, Robot Operation, Aquarium-Bot, & more!

WHY STEM?

As parents and educators, why should we care about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (S.T.E.M.)?   Science explores the physical world around us.  Math explores the world through numbers and equations.  Engineering uses math and science to solve real-world problems.  Technology is the use of engineering to generate a good or service for the purpose of serving others.  By combining S.T.E.M. education with the proper worldview, we are preparing our youth to develop products and services that can change the world.

This Introduction to Robotics class provides an opportunity for young students to learn Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in a fun and engaging manner.  Students will be introduced to circuit building, micro-controller programming, and 3D-printing as they build a fully-functioning robot of their own.  Every robot will be different, as your child designs his/her own robot’s appearance and behavior.  Best of all, everyone gets to keep their completed robot at the end of the class.  Our class concludes with a robot showcase where parents are invited to see their kids present their completed projects.  Students will also practice writing and communication skills through daily journaling and interactive group activities throughout the course.  Class sizes are limited to 8 total students to ensure individualized, hands-on instruction.
