Let’s play with Shakespeare! Whether you’ve had experience with Shakespeare in the past or not, this class is for you! We will act out bits of his other works in order to get more familiar with his language, and we will spend most of our time enjoying this play together (no reading homework). We will read parts, act out sections, watch video clips, and talk about it all!

This class is most appropriate for grades 7 and up, but parents should always evaluate their own child’s readiness level.

You will need a copy of the unabridged play and a sense of fun

PARENT REVIEW

My daughters had so much fun in this Classic Literature Class with Ms. Tanya Robinson. The level of difficulty of this class was just right for my girls. The class was so engaging that the literatures were brought to life with the way that Ms. Robinson handled the class. Even at home,  my girls were so excited to talk about the literatures that they learned and they would give so much feedback and comments that showed how much they enjoyed the class. I also appreciate how Ms. Robinson encouraged her students to contribute to their discussion of literatures by sharing their thoughts and opinions. I also like that they do a lot of writing in this class. Over all, it was a great experience for my girls and I highly recommend this class.
Thanks,
Lovell

PARENT REVIEW

Tanya’s class covers many period writing pieces. Her projects are creative and they get the students to do a little more than just read a book and write a report. For example, she had my daughters class write a murder mystery story while they were reading Sherlock Holmes. My daughter loved working on that project. It forced her to research how to create characters and develop them through a story, On her own she learned about story arcs and pacing. It was a highlight of the year for my daughter.  Tanya also had them draw “propaganda” posters when they read Animal Farm. Drawing in an English class is unheard of, and she’s not going to draw as a career, but she did do a pretty good job for never having drawn before, now my daughter realizes that she did something she didn’t think she could do.
Tanya is super creative and has her students thinking outside of the box when it comes to English assignments. Her class projects are forcing the students into areas that they may not be familiar with, like drawing or story telling, but they learn about the process and about what they are capable of doing.
THAT IS PRICELESS…

Classic literature is filled with excitement, philosophy, and beauty! Reading works of literature which have stood the test of time develops critical thinking skills, expands one’s vocabulary, and helps a person see the grander scale of life. This class will expose you to great classic works through reading, discussion, and writing. (1 year High School English credit) The class is intended for students in grades 9-12, but middle school students with good reading skills and who can handle the themes are welcome.

About Me:

Before becoming a parent, I received my B.A. and Teaching Credential in English and taught in a private high school. While there, I taught all four grade levels, ranging from basic English classes to specialized literature courses. The book For the Children’s Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay introduced me to Charlotte Mason’s philosophies and I incorporated many of her methods into our homeschooling. I educated my children at home for all of their school years (K-graduation) and now that my children are in college and/or their careers, I am excited to use my experiences to help other students develop their skills.

PARENT REVIEW:

My son Victor Maldonado took his English class with Mrs. Robinson. I just want to let you know that her class, in my opinion as a Mom, is very good. I really love seeing my son reading excellent books. She’s always communicating with us the parents letting us know how our kids are doing. Mrs. Robinson is well organized.
Because I considered her a great teacher, my son will be taking English the next school year with her for his senior year. She already sent me the list of books they are going to be reading, and I ordered and received them last month.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review and opinion about Mrs. Robinson.
Blessings,
Araceli Maldonado

CLASS BEGINS September 2024

Parent Review

“As someone who benefits from Staci’s expertise, I can say that she really helped my 8th grade daughter find her potential in literature and writing. Staci provided writing prompts, literature, and poems tailored to my daughter’s interests. Her level of attention and enthusiasm helped my daughter expand her range of genres and appreciation for classic literature. My daughter also tested at a 10th grade level for reading thanks to the level of work Staci has been doing with her. Forever grateful to have Staci in our lives.” – Julie Darrell, homeschool mom

Students become “neighbors” in a delightful Medieval Town they help create, where they will experience many events through the year including historic celebrations, festivals, traditional crafting, medieval games, natural disasters, and unbelievable mishaps!  As each town event effects the residents, it will serve as the journal prompt for a creative writing assignment for the week.

“Swarms of bees overtook the town, and I…

“The highlight of the festival was one daring performer who…

“The wagon unhitched sending us barreling into the…”

Town residents will start by deciding what to name their town and decorating their own home and property. Each student will choose a historic job that will produce weekly earnings. They can use their income to save and upgrade their home, or buy or barter for additions to the property from the marketplace.  Each student will get a chance to be crowned “Royal of the Day” , and Town residents will talk about and compare stories about the events of the week.  Some drawing, crafts, prize games, and other creative expressions will also be incorporated throughout the year to fit our Medieval theme.

While the class will have some mini lessons on writing techniques, literary devices, figurative language, and poetry, our focus is not on the formal fundamentals of writing.  The main goal of this class is to motivate kids to put pen to paper to write with enthusiasm and express their ideas in written form.    Journal writing is done during class time, and journal expectations can be varied to adapt to different learning levels and abilities.
