Hi, I’m Nancy Weber! I’m so happy you’re curious about learning Spanish.

I hold a BS in Human Services and bring over 22 years of experience teaching, tutoring, and coaching children from K–12 throughout many stages of their learning journey. As a native Spanish speaker, I bring both lived experience and years of tutoring Spanish, helping students—especially beginners—build a strong and confident foundation in the language.

In addition, I have extensive experience working one-on-one with students, as well as in virtual settings, and classroom setting supporting those who are curious about learning a foreign language. I help students build their skills through techniques that make the learning process feel approachable, engaging, and achievable. Along the way, I have also been homeschooling my three children since 2016, which has deepened my understanding of personalized learning.

Working with children learning a second language has truly been my area of expertise, and I’m passionate about meeting each student where they are.

My goal is always to keep the student’s interests at the center of learning while creating a welcoming, safe, and fun environment. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, supported, and encouraged to take risks. I strive to provide a space where they can grow in both confidence and language skills and truly enjoy the learning process.

By the end of the school year (2 semesters), students should be able to:
1. Recognize and produce basic vocabulary (everyday objects, colors, numbers, family, food, animals, clothes, body parts)
2. Understand simple commands and phrases
3. Form simple sentences (subject + verb + object, basic adjectives)
4. Participate in short dialogues (greetings, questions about self/family)
5. Experience Spanish culture through visuals, songs, and stories

COST: $270 per semester (2 semesters for the school year)

ABOUT THE TEACHER:

Teaches: American Sign Language (all levels)

Sharon has a BA in Psychology and a MS in Clinical Psychology, both from Vanguard University. Before she started teaching she worked as a developmental play therapist (using Stanley Greenspan’s Floortime method) and then as an ABA therapist (applied behavioral analysis), working with children with special needs.

 Sharon has been signing for over 20 years now.  She started taking ASL classes her freshman year of high school and continued into college.   She has been teaching at EIE Academy since 2014. She also taught ASL full time (and occasionally Psychology and Sociology) at Maranatha High School in Pasadena for six years. She has a 6 year old daughter (who is hearing), Emma, who started signing at 9 months old! She also has a 4yr old son (also hearing) who started signing at 6 months old.

At the end of the 2018 school year Sharon decided to resign from full time teaching at Maranatha so she can “stay home” and homeschool her children as well as offer ASL classes during the day at EIE.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of American Sign Language, with an emphasis on the development of comprehensive skills.  Attention will also be given to expressive skills, including appropriate grammatical structure, fingerspelling and vocabulary development.  Information about the Deaf community and its culture will also be included.

 COST:

• Class duration 2 semesters
• $270.00 per semester per student plus the cost of workbook.
• $325.00 for charter students.

 **MATERIALS: Signing Naturally units 1-6 Student set. (NOT the original units 1-12)  $89.95 plus tax and shipping. Please do not purchase a used book with writing in it.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Signing Naturally, Units 7-12 is the second book in the series of curricular materials for the instruction of AmericanSign Language (ASL) as a second language. The goal is to provide students with the skills to communicate in a wider array of situations, to further develop their language fluency and to advance their level of comprehension of ASL in culturally appropriate ways.
Some topics include, Describing people and things, making requests and asking for advice, describing places, giving opinions about tendencies, and discussing plans and goals.

WHEN: Tuesday 3:00 – 4:00
