Come and learn Spanish in a fun way! In this conversational Spanish class Students will learn Spanish through games and interactive activities, drawing and doing basic body movements.
Students will have the opportunity to discuss their interests, hobbies and goals. The instructor will teach students how to say Spanish words and sentences based on each students interests. Such as: going to the beach/lake, theme parks, traveling and transportation. Students will also learn how to order at a restaurant, and different activities such as swimming, hiking, walking, sports and concerts. Students will also learn numbers, colors and basic body parts such as: head, shoulders, stomach, legs and feet.

Come learn Spanish with your toddler! In this class, students will learn Spanish in a fun way! We will listen and move to Spanish songs. We will also sing, have story time and  play with playdoh and toys. The instructor will teach Spanish based on the activities the students are doing. Parents/ guardian is required to be in the room.

This class will be learning:

  • Classroom objects
  • Emotions
  • Family members
  • Clothing
  • Animals
  • Community names including library, fire station and grocery store.

Sharon has a BA in Psychology and a MS in Clinical Psychology, both from Vanguard University. Before she started teaching she worked as a developmental play therapist (using Stanley Greenspan’s Floortime method) and then as an ABA therapist (applied behavioral analysis), working with children with special needs.

 Sharon has been signing for over 20 years now.  She started taking ASL classes her freshman year of high school and continued into college.   She has been teaching at EIE Academy since 2014. She also taught ASL full time (and occasionally Psychology and Sociology) at Maranatha High School in Pasadena for six years. She has a 6 year old daughter (who is hearing), Emma, who started signing at 9 months old! She also has a 4yr old son (also hearing) who started signing at 6 months old.

At the end of the 2018 school year Sharon decided to resign from full time teaching at Maranatha so she can “stay home” and homeschool her children as well as offer ASL classes during the day at EIE.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of American Sign Language, with an emphasis on the development of comprehensive skills.  Attention will also be given to expressive skills, including appropriate grammatical structure, fingerspelling and vocabulary development.  Information about the Deaf community and its culture will also be included.

 COST:

  • Class duration 2 semesters
  • $250.00 per semester per student plus the cost of workbook.
  • $325.00 for charter students.

 **MATERIALS: Signing Naturally units 1-6 Student set. (NOT the original units 1-12)  $84.95 plus tax and shipping. Please do not purchase a used book with writing in it.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Signing Naturally, Units 7-12 is the second book in the series of curricular materials for the instruction of AmericanSign Language (ASL) as a second language. The goal is to provide students with the skills to communicate in a wider array of situations, to further develop their language fluency and to advance their level of comprehension of ASL in culturally appropriate ways.
Some topics include, Describing people and things, making requests and asking for advice, describing places, giving opinions about tendencies, and discussing plans and goals.
