Sharon Chung

Mondays

Classes start 9-14-2020

About the teacher:

Sharon has a BA in Psychology and a MS in Clinical Psychology, both from Vanguard University. Before she started teaching she worked as a developmental play therapist (using Stanley Greenspan’s Floortime method) and then as an ABA therapist (applied behavioral analysis), working with children with special needs.

She has been teaching at EIE Academy since 2014. She also taught American Sign Language, Psychology and Sociology full time at Maranatha High School in Pasadena for six years. She has a 4 1/2 year old daughter, Emma, almost 2 year old son, Daniel. At the end of the 2018 school year Sharon decided to resign from full time teaching at Maranatha so she can “stay home” and homeschool her children as well as offer Psychology and ASL classes during the day at EIE.

Description:

Who were the Pilgrims and why would they travel 66 days by ship to go to a place that had absolutely nothing? Learn what it takes to make such a voyage; the sacrifices, the dangers, the obstacles, the challenges and the triumphs. We’ll do this as we make a parallel trip to a deserted island in order to discover the answers to the commonly asked questions regarding the Pilgrims and some not so common questions. The adventure will include reading an actual account of a 10 year old passenger on the Mayflower and by doing projects and playing games. Travelers will take away an understanding of why the plight of the Pilgrims is such an important part of our American education.

This course is an excellent lead-in for next year’s class;

COLONIAL AMERICA/Jamestown, suitable for grades 6-8

Master Criminal Nina Pasadena is at it again! This time she is determined to capture America’s amazing landmarks to declare this nation the “United States of Nina Pasadena”

Join the Acme Detective Agency on the state-by-state hunt for super spy mastermind, Nina Pasadena.  This time she is using puzzles, secret messages, invisible ink, locked cases, combination codes, and more to communicate with her henchmen about their missions. The henchmen will be under cover, disguising themselves as famous people from each state. If we identify and capture them, we can intercept their messages and decode their plans for the next targeted landmark!  Our investigations will include state nicknames, flags, symbols, major cities, significant sites, historical
information and more. We will use books, atlases, encyclopedia, maps and other research materials to stop Nina in her tracks!
Agents will also be responsible for an Agent Special Assignment (aka- a short research paper, and drawing task to work on at home) about a specific state that is a suspected henchman hide-out. Agents will present their Special Assignment in front of the Acme team (oral presentation).
Will we catch Nina Pasadena? Join us on this Geography Adventure!

our national adventures!
