Mario DeMatteo is a storyteller, a poet, an urban farmer, a purveyor of awesome, and most importantly, a Jesus-follower. Thirteen years ago, he incurred a permanent spinal cord injury while diving into a shallow swimming pool in Costa Rica, confining him to a wheelchair.  It is through God’s grace alone that he is here today.  While the world may be difficult to navigate on wheels, Mario praises God that He is moving and leading him toward something greater than he could ever have imagined.

About five years ago, God put it on his heart to begin work on Paul the Apostle: A Graphic Novel.  The vision: tell the accurate story of his hero, Paul the Apostle, but set it in a futuristic sci-fi world using crazy amazing cartoon creatures.   He assembled the team, co-wrote and edited the script, art directed the illustrations, and founded Beartruth Collective LLC to publish the book.  All glory to God! Mario received his MA in Comparative Literature and Writing from California State University of San Marcos. He is passionate about storytelling and the power of art as a means of spreading the Good News of Jesus.

Mario will be speaking about his life journey and how God miraculously works through the most difficult and tragic situations for the glory of His kingdom.  He will also talk about how God will often use tragedies to reveal to us our hidden gifts and how we can all be superheroes by putting on the armour of God discussed by Paul in Ephesians 6:11.
